Anne Boleyn in Gossip Girl

I watched the end of Gossip Girl last night and Blair brought up Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I.

This is what she said:

"That's the thing. You need to be cool to be queen. Anne Boleyn thought only with her heart and she got her head chopped off. So her daughter Elizabeth made a vow never to marry a man. She married a country. Forget boys. Keep your eye on the prize, Jenny Humphrey."

All I can say is WTF. Blair is an idiot. DOES SHE NOT KNOW ANNE BOLEYN AT ALL?!?!?!?! Stupid damn writers of Gossip Girl. GET YOUR DAMN HISTORY RIGHT. It's so irritating because Anne Boleyn is probably the LAST PERSON EVER who thought "with her heart" - if she thought with her heart she probably would have just had sex with Henry from the beginning and became his mistress, BUT NOOOOO, she kept the King on his toes/desires for 7 damn years!!!! It is debatable whether she refused Henry's advances in order to gain more power or if she truly wanted to keep her dignity and not be the King's whore, but either way, she was pretty damn smart. If Blair thought she was the Queen of wiley charms, SHE NEEDS TO THINK AGAIN. ANNE BOLEYN IS THE QUEEN OF CLEVER, thank you very much.

Okay, that's my rant.

Happy Anne Boleyn Day!!!! Anne Boleyn was executed today in 1536.

  1. Thanks for the link, Helen! It's so funny the warped ideas that people get about Anne Boleyn isn't it and how she's become a big part of popular culture. It's good to rant, I got a bit cross yesterday because someone suggested to me that the only thing that made Anne Boleyn "great" was her execution! Then I got accused of being biased, well I suppose I am!! We just don't know enough about Anne to know what she was really like but we know enough to conclude that she was innocent and should not have been executed. As far as thinking with her heart or her head, a bit of both I think but more with her head.

  4. Ha! I thought the exact same thing! That is..after the I got over the headrush that they talked about Anne Boleyn on Gossip Girl and texted all my friends like the geek i am. (What do you expect? Combine one of my obsessions with another and you get instant fangirlness. Go figure.) Anyway, I was a bit confused at Blair's statement as well... I mean, sure, some people believe Anne DID think with her heart...Thats what she wanted people to believe anyway. That she truely loved Henry. But most are of the opinion she just sought after the crown. So, Blair's advice to Jenny was a little faulty- but well founded. Anne was stronge until the end, and Elizabeth as well. In the end, Blair was right- you gotta be strong to be queen (even if she was a little of on her historical accuracy ;] )

  6. actually if you knew anne boleyn you would know that she did sleep with king henry but it is recorded that she was a virgin before she married him so she did make him make that committment but she wasnt stupid she had a kings heart wrapped around her finger and she kept it that way for 7 years but then she began to fall inlove with him and she did start thinking with only her heart
then he turned out to be a jerk and had her killed because divorces were not allowed in those days so he had to kill her to he could sleep with other women without losing his hierarchy

  7. I do think she thought with her heart. Not only with it, but she did. She did get what she wanted for making him mad about her, but I'm not sure it was JUST her mind speaking, in my opinion she loved Henry.

  8. ummmmm yeah, except i'm pretty sure that the "Stupid Damn writers" have their history exactly right . . . i'm thinking that they had Blair say that just because IT SOUNDED GOOD. y'know, like they tend to do on TV ?
